What is a Structural Distortion?

The 3 parts of a Structural Distortion are:

• Segment Dysfunction
• Postural/Structural Dysfunction

The “Segmental” dysfunction is similar to what many chiropractors assess for. Individual bones and vertebra that misalign through any number of reasons. This is what the chiropractic adjustment is there to correct.

The “Postural/Structural” dysfunction is when a bone (segment) is left misaligned for too long that it starts to DISTORT the rest of the spine. This results in changes to your outward appearance and can result in scoliosis/hunchbacks/sway back and any other number of named conditions.

Then, is the “Movement” dysfunction is left long enough, it will negatively affect your movement. This results in “tightness” in certain parts of the spine (like ankles/legs/hips/shoulders) and weakness in other parts of the body. This is measured on a scale of 0-100 and it is something that we measure regularly to ensure that you are indeed getting better. If you don’t measure your health how do you know you’re getting better?

If the condition is caused by a misaligned or restricted joint? A chiropractic adjustment will help alleviate that. 

Is the condition caused by a postural abnormality that resulted from a misaligned joint? Functional/Corrective exercises and SNMR will help correct that.

Is the condition caused by Movement dysfunction? Stretching and strengthening muscles will help alleviate that.

So, depending on your condition, treatments can take as little as 10 minutes or, if you’re an advanced case, up to 45. The average treatment time (after exam) is usually under 15 minutes, so it is easy to fit into a busy schedule.
